HOP FILM: Visiting Professor Sayed Kashua presents three episodes of his hilarious sitcom 'Arab Labor'

Thursday, August 01, 2024, 7:00 pm, Loew Auditorium, Free and unticketed.

Series creator Sayed Kashua, showcases three episodes from his humorous sitcom, Arab Labor, featuring an Arab-Israeli journalist, which became one of the most talked-about shows on Israeli television from 2007 to 2013.

Arab Labor, whose title in conversational Hebrew carries the racist and discriminatory connotations of "shoddy or second-rate work," centers on the family and professional challenges of Amjad, an Arab-Israeli journalist. Amjad's comedic efforts to integrate his family into mainstream Israeli culture serve as a satirical exploration of the biases and stereotypes on both sides of the border.

The screening will feature three episodes selected by series creator Sayed Kashua, who as an Arab Israeli is often compared to a Palestinian Dave Chappelle for his bold parodies of racial stereotypes. Whether it elicits laughter or provokes thought, this audacious Arab-Israeli sitcom offers a fresh perspective on the Middle East conflict, promising a unique and compelling viewing experience.
