You are invited to a book talk with author Marwan Kaabour on his book titled The Queer Arab Glossary.

The book offers the first-ever published collection of Arabic LGBTQ+ slang. A one-of-a-kind read, the guide captures the widely used vocabulary of the queer Arab community in all its nuances and differences. Featuring anecdotes and fascinating historical facts, the bilingual glossary paints a linguistic picture of how queer bodies are perceived within the Arab region. Additionally, it includes insightful essays by eight leading Arab queer artists, academics, activists and writers, which situate the glossary in a modern social and political context.

With beautiful, witty illustrations by Haitham Haddad, The Queer Arab Glossary is a powerful response to myths about queer people in the Arab world, and is proof that the LGBTQI+ Arab community is alive and thriving.

The Middle Eastern Studies Program has sponsored the event.
